What is a Homestead Exemption?

Once approved, the Homestead Exemption becomes permanent at that address. You do not need to reapply annually unless you move or sell the property. The exemption provides property tax relief on the first $75,000 of the assessed value of your primary residence and is available to all eligible homeowners in Louisiana.

How do I file for a Homestead Exemption?

To apply for a Homestead Exemption, homeowners must typically appear in person. Be sure to bring the following documents:

Proof of ownership (a recorded Act of Sale or Warranty Deed)

A valid driver’s license or state ID

A recent, unpaid utility bill addressed to the homeowner at the property’s address
