James E. Smith Jr. (Jim) presently heads the Residential Services Department and is the Manager of the Title Stream Uptown Office located on Maple Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jim offers extensive experience in land use and all real estate matters. He manages an active real estate practice and directs projects of various sizes and characters. Jim represents buyers, sellers, and lenders in real estate transactions, including all types of contract and document preparation and numerous real estate financing.

In his younger years, Jim represented various gaming companies and contributed as an author of the successful Riverboat Gaming Act, permitting riverboat gambling on Louisiana’s waterways. Before founding the law firm Smith Martin in 1984, which is now Smith and Treuting, L.L.C., Jim was a staff attorney for the Federal Energy Commission of the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington D.C.

Jim received his undergraduate degree from Boston College. He then attended Cambridge University in England where he received an L.L.B., followed by attending George Washington University where he received an L.L.M.

Jim is authorized to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the U.S. Tax Court and the Supreme Court of Louisiana. He is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association (sections on Real Estate, Business and Corporate Law).

When not making clients feel at ease with his wit and expertise on closing day, Jim likes to fish, go sailing, play with his dog and spend time with his lovely wife and their two smart, good-looking children.
